The entry stairs of this Oakland
residence had become unsafe over the years due to unseen rot
beneath the treads and risers.
After the removal and disposal
of the existing stairs (treads, risers and stringers), three
new pressure treated 2"x12" stringers were cut and
installed. All cut edges on the stringers were resealed with
pressure treated wood sealer prior to installation. We then
installed new pre-primed redwood skirt boards, ten new pre-primed
redwood risers using PL400 adhesive at stringers, and silicone
caulk at skirt boards, and ten new pre-primed Alaskan yellow
cedar treads using PL400 adhesive at stringers, and silicone
caulk at skirt boards and risers. All redwood and cedar end
grain is sealed with marine grade epoxy prior to painting.
All components are fastened with exterior grade deck screws
and/or stainless steel nails.
As with all projects undertaken
by Period Restoration, the quality of the construction methods
and materials used ensure that the final product will serve
the client for many years to come.
